A little about me
I am a native of Buffalo, New York and a journalism graduate of Buffalo State College, class of 1984. Currently I'm in my 32nd year as a sports writer for the Rochester (N.Y.) Democrat and Chronicle, the last 28 years of which I have been chronicling the exploits of the Buffalo Bills. I went to the Super Bowl my first four years on the beat. Now, it's been 17 years since I've covered a playoff game. I still shake my head at that one.
I was a 2009 inductee into the media group of the Frontier Field Walk of Fame, I'm a two-time Rochester Press-Radio Club Sports Writer of the Year award winner, and have been recognized by the American Legion as Rochester's Sports Writer of the Year. I have also won numerous New York State Publishers' Association and Gannett News Service citations for my work with the Democrat and Chronicle.
My freelance work has appeared in numerous publications and online web sites including The Sporting News, Golf World, Golf Week, USGA Journal, USA Today, PGA Magazine, Lacrosse Magazine, NFL.com, CBS Sportsline, and The SportsXchange.
I have also become a regular guest on the Time Warner Sports Network talk show Thruway Sports Talk which airs live regionally and nationally on the TWC network at 6 p.m. Monday, and is re-aired throughout the week. And you can catch me on radio during football season every Monday night on the Bob Matthews Show, every Thursday afternoon on the DiTullio and Moran Show, and in too many other places to name as I average at least five hits per week. Also, starting in the spring of 2017 and running through the World Series, I will be on with Bob and former colleague Jim Mandelaro on a weekly baseball show from 7-8 p.m.
I have now authored 20 books, most of which you can take a peak at via the links on this site, and purchase if you wish through Amazon.com.
I am an avid golfer who still, somehow at my advanced age, plays to a 7-handicap at Blue Heron Hills Country Club. I enjoy researching sports history, I really enjoy lounging on my couch watching television, and if my iPhone is playing music, it's usually Bruce Springsteen, who I have seen in concert about 15 times. My wife Christine and I have three children - daughters Taylor and Caroline, and our son Holden, and of course our great dog, Buddy.
