Off days in 1977 for the Yankees mean player profile days on the blog. Here's a look at pitcher Ron Guidry.

When Guidry was making his way through the Yankees farm system, the club wasn't quite sure what it had. Most of his appearances came from the bullpen, but early in 1977, with the Yankees suffering a couple injuries in the starting rotation, Guidry got his chance to start in a late April game against Seattle, and the rest was history as Guidry went on to become an all-time Yankee. His 170 victories rank fifth behind only Whitey Ford, Red Ruffing, Andy Pettitte, and Lefty Gomez.

I'll be back tomorrow with another post as the Yankees opened a three-game series in Milwaukee.
