NEW YORK – Cliff Johnson made the point following his three-homer outburst that it doesn’t mean anything if you can’t continue to help the club moving forward. Well, Johnson was no help to the Yankees in this one as he went 0-for-3, but no one else did much of anything either as Detroit’s Dave Rozema handcuffed New York on six harmless singles.
The last time the Yankees saw Rozema was 10 days earlier, and he had to leave that game after two innings because of shoulder stiffness. No such luck this time as he went the distance without walking a batter and allowed only a single run in the sixth when the Yankees strung together three of their singles, the last by Willie Randolph to chase home Graig Nettles.
Mike Torrez was fine through four innings of a scoreless game, but then got lit up in the fifth as he yielded four runs on six hits, one a solo homer by Milt May.
Not a whole lot else to say, so here's another taste from the musical scene in 1977. Fleetwood Mac's Rumours won the Grammy for album of the year, so here's a clip of the band singing Go Your Own Way.
